Assisted Suicide Advocate Advances Deadly Agenda in Cleveland
Lobbying for Death in Ohio Continues
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 23rd, 2016
On the heels of the Ohio Senate approving Senate Bill 165, Medical Orders for Life Stopping Treatment (MOLST), earlier this month--a protocol created and promoted by pro-euthanasia groups--Ohio is now being targeted by a lobbyist for legalization of physician assisted suicide in this state.
Dan Diaz, the husband of Brittney Maynard, the woman who made international headlines in publicizing her self-imposed death in the face of illness, recently spoke at a Cleveland Clinic conference. Diaz has been lobbying in New York state where suicide advocates seek to also legalize the practice, after capturing California.
"It is not a coincident that this presentation follows hot on the heels of the passage of Senator Peggy Lehner's deadly bill. The pressure is on to get this bill signed into law. We must reject this legislation and insist that the Ohio House of Representative throw this un-necessary and noxious bill out. Ohioan are already adequately protected in their end of life wishes and do not need to have this form stuck into their medical files with the potential to hasten their deaths through incorrect interpretation of their wishes" said Molly Smith, President of Cleveland Right to Life. "The Buckeye State is well known as a state where life is cherished and where LIFE WITH DIGNITY is what we strive for - hastening death is never dignified."
"Life is to be lived with dignity to its natural end," said Paula Westwood, Executive Director, Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati, on behalf of the coalition* opposing assisted suicide. "Ohio citizens must stand for protections for the vulnerable at every stage of life and every health condition."

OTHER MOLST FACTS:
•MOLST is created & promoted by pro-euthanasia groups
•Ohio already has end of life needs covered in existing law, thus this bill is unnecessary.
•SB 165 is a foot in the door toward the introduction of more invasive assisted suicide and euthanasia practices
•Hemlock Society (Compassion and Choices), Death with Dignity, and the authors of the Oregon assisted suicide handbook are vigorous proponents of MOLST
•SB 165 promotes a one page form (which doesn't even need to be filled out by a physician) that could trump & over-rule specific advanced directives
•There is a growing coalition of organizations who oppose this bill: see below for a list of organizations. Add yours to the list!
